Sports writing (EFE).- World number one Carlos Alcaraz and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero have announced the end of their sporting relationship after more than seven years and it will be Samuel López, who already worked with the player from Murcia and shared technical duties with Ferrero, who will remain solely responsible for the tennis player’s career.
«It’s very difficult for me to write this post. After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player», announces the Spanish tennis player on social media.
Since 2018 with Alcaraz
Juan Carlos Ferrero took charge of Alcaraz’s career in 2018, when the tennis player was 15 years old, and was not yet on the ATP circuit thanks, in large part, to the mediation of his agent, Albert Molina.
Ferrero, who among others directed part of the career of the German Alexander Zverev, bet on the player from Murcia, whom he helped reach the top 100 in 2021 and win his first ATP title in Umag, in 2021 and his first Masters 1000, in Miami, in 2022.
It was the beginning of the explosion of Carlos Alcaraz, 22 years old, with twenty-four titles to his name, including six Grand Slams, two US Opens, two Wimbledons and two Roland Garros.

“We have managed to reach the top, and I feel that, if our sporting paths had to separate, it should be from up there. From the place we always worked for and always aspired to reach,” he underlined.
Alcaraz recalls in his message on social media everything achieved with Ferrero, who, as a player, also became number one and winner, once, of Roland Garros.

Times of change
“There are so many memories that come to mind that it wouldn’t be fair to just pick one. You’ve made me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something I value very much: I’ve enjoyed the process. I’ll take that with me, the journey we’ve shared together,” he emphasizes.
“Now times of change are coming for both of us, new adventures and new projects. But I am certain that we will face them in the right way, giving our best, as we have always done. Always adding,” adds the number one in the world.

Alcaraz and Ferrero announce their professional split a month before the start of a new Grand Slam, the Australian Open, the only one that the Spaniard has not yet achieved and which he faces as a major goal.
Ferrero: “I would have liked to continue”
Juan Carlos Ferrero thanked for having been able to enjoy the professional experience with the current number one in world tennis and acknowledged that he would have liked to continue with the one who has been his pupil and with whom he has won six Grand Slam titles.
