Santo Domingo.– The president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP), Celso Juan Marranzini, reiterated this Wednesday the business sector’s willingness to resume the tripartite dialogue on the Labor Code reform, with the goal of reaching a consensus that benefits both workers and the country’s competitiveness.
Marranzini assured that the business community is ready to resume conversations as soon as the National Congress restarts its work, also welcoming the call made by the President of the Republic to reactivate the dialogue between the different sectors involved.
“We have been ready from day one to resume it and be able to reach the best possible Labor Code, always respecting the rights of workers and looking for ways to improve competitiveness and productivity,” he expressed.
The business leader pointed out that one of the main objectives of the reform must be to address the high informality of the labor market, considering this to be one of the great challenges facing the country.

Regarding the pause in legislative discussions, Marranzini explained that it was due to the end of the legislative session and the intense agenda of Congress, although he insisted that CONEP maintains its willingness to resume negotiations immediately.
Likewise, he rejected that the business sector seeks to eliminate severance pay, one of the most controversial points in the discussion of the reform. “No one is talking about removing severance pay or taking away workers’ rights,” he stated.
Marranzini maintained that consensus is possible if there is trust between the parties and assured that reopening the dialogue does not mean that workers will be harmed, but rather that it will allow for the construction of a balanced reform adapted to the current needs of the labor market.
