Santiago.- A judge from the judicial district of Santiago imposed this Monday three months of preventive detention as a coercive measure against seven men accused of participating in the death of garbage collector driver Deivy Carlos Abreu Quezada, who died after a conflict arising from a vehicular incident.
The decision was made by the coordinating judge of the Instruction Courts, José Rafael de Asís Burgos, who ordered the imprisonment of Adony Antonio Ureña Ventura, Andrés Monclú González, Carlos Andrés Roa Morán, Miguel García Balbuena, Joanfry Joel Núñez, Juan Carlos Soto Ortiz and Kevin Francisco Metz Cruz, identified by the authorities as directly linked to the crime.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred after a traffic incident between the victim and a motorcyclist, which led to an assault that ended the worker’s life. The case has generated consternation in the community, due to the violence with which a situation considered minor escalated.
During the hearing, the Public Prosecutor’s Office maintained that there is sufficient evidence linking the accused to the homicide, therefore requesting the most severe coercive measure to ensure their presence in the judicial process.

Family members of the victim reacted to the court decision. Sarah Seline Abreu Quezada, the deceased’s sister, expressed her hope that justice will be served. “We are going to wait for God’s will to be done and for the full weight of the law to fall on those responsible,” she stated.
Authorities indicated that they continue to deepen the investigations while the accused will serve the measure in a penitentiary center of the country. The case is now in the instruction phase, in which it will be determined whether those involved will be sent to trial on the merits.
