Caracas, Venezuela.– The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, dismissed this Wednesday Major General Javier Marcano Tábata, who served as head of the Presidential Honor Guard of Nicolás Maduro and director of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM), in a decision that deepens internal tensions within the State’s security apparatus following the recent US military intervention.
According to information handled in high circles of power, Marcano Tábata is accused of serious misconduct, including alleged communications with external actors in the days prior to the United States military operation. These versions have fueled the theory about the possible existence of an infiltrator within the security circle closest to the Venezuelan president.
In place of the dismissed general, Rodríguez appointed General Gustavo González López, who assumes the head of the Presidential Honor Guard in a context of reconfiguration and strengthening of the regime’s security system.
The dismissal comes amid versions of failures in the presidential protection rings and after official reports indicating that part of the security team was killed during the attack, which has generated a climate of distrust and internal adjustments in the military structures.
With this measure, the Government seeks to regain control and strengthen security mechanisms, in a scenario marked by internal pressure and international scrutiny of the country’s political and military stability.
