Deputies receive the 911 director to discuss expansion projects in the border area

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Permanent Commission on Border Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies received the executive director of the 911 National Emergency and Security Attention System, Colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, who presented the system’s expansion projects regarding emergency coverage, video surveillance, and radio communications, with special emphasis on the southern and border areas of the Dominican Republic.

The president of the commission, Rafael Pérez, initiated the legislative work by highlighting the importance of these initiatives to strengthen citizen security and guarantee a faster and more efficient response in emergency situations.

Likewise, he stressed that the expansion of the system represents a fundamental step to close gaps in provinces that still lack technological coverage, which will allow for greater peace of mind and protection for the communities.

During the meeting, Colonel Rijo Gómez explained that the country currently has more than 6,000 video surveillance cameras distributed throughout the national territory. However, he pointed out that the border area remains the only place without camera coverage, which represents a challenge for security and control in those demarcations.

The official detailed that there is a project under budgetary analysis that contemplates the installation and expansion of the video surveillance system throughout the southern zone, including the provinces of Elías Piña, Bahoruco, Independencia, Santiago Rodríguez, and Dajabón.

With this measure, he indicated that the goal is to ensure that these communities have modern tools to face emergency situations and strengthen public safety.

On the other hand, the congressmen present agreed on the relevance of this initiative, highlighting that security is a fundamental right and that the implementation of these technologies will contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens, especially in the most vulnerable and difficult-to-access areas.
