Dominican economy grew 6.4% in June, its largest monthly expansion of 2026

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican economy recorded a year-on-year growth of 6.4% in June 2026, the highest rate of expansion observed so far this year, according to preliminary figures from the Monthly Economic Activity Indicator (IMAE) released this Thursday by the Central Bank. With this result, economic activity reached an average growth of 5.0% during the April-June quarter, while the accumulated expansion for the first semester stood at 4.5%, more than double the performance recorded in the same period of 2025. The monetary entity noted that the trend-cycle indicator continues to show a sustained recovery since the end of last year. Dominican economy records 6.4% expansion in June 2026.

The Central Bank indicated that the performance in June was mainly driven by the mining (18.1%), construction (14.9%), free trade zone manufacturing (5.8%), and services (5.2%) sectors. Within the latter group, financial services (13.1%), education (8.9%), professional services (8.7%), transport and storage (5.7%), other market service activities (5.6%), health (4.9%), and hotels, bars, and restaurants (4.6%) stood out. Likewise, local manufacturing grew by 2.5% and agricultural activity by 1.6%. The Dominican economy registered an expansion of 6.4% in June 2026.

The institution highlighted that construction accounted for nearly 30% of the IMAE growth in June, favored by greater dynamism in private and public investment, as well as better financing conditions. In that context, credit allocated to the sector increased by 22.6% year-on-year, equivalent to more than RD$34 billion additional compared to the same period in 2025. Regarding tourism, the added value of hotels, bars, and restaurants grew by 4.6%, driven by the arrival of 816,512 tourists during June, an increase of 6.0% compared to the same month of the previous year. For its part, financial intermediation activity recorded a growth of 13.1%, supported by the 9.1% expansion of credit to the private sector, equivalent to an additional RD$217 billion compared to June 2025. The Dominican economy recorded an expansion of 6.4% in June 2026.

The Central Bank stated that the Dominican economy maintains solid fundamentals, supported by a stable financial system and a resilient private sector, and assured that it will continue to monitor the international environment to preserve price stability and macroeconomic stability.
