Santo Domingo.- Dominican tobacco exports reached 1.359 billion dollars in 2025, 19 million dollars more than the previous year, for an industry that generates 122,000 direct jobs in the country.
n” “nThe president of the state-run National Tobacco Institute, Iván Hernández Guzmán, stated this Wednesday that 130 tobacco and derivative free zone companies operate in the Dominican Republic, 93% of which are located in the northern region.
n” “nThe official highlighted, through a note issued by the institute, that Dominican tobacco exports have increased by 41% from 2019 to date.
n” “nHernández pointed out that this growth facilitated new investments and was reflected in the increase in direct jobs, which went from 97,486 in 2019 to more than 122,000 in 2026. The country produces about 330,000 quintals per year.

n” “nHe highlighted that the tobacco industry is a driver of the national economy and remains the third largest export product of the Dominican Republic, after gold and medical supplies.
n” “nIn his view, the growth in exports is the result of the support provided by the Government in terms of technical assistance, soil preparation, delivery of seedlings, seeds, land plowing, pest control assistance, delivery of documentation for import, export, donation of fumigation equipment, as well as national and international promotion of the sector.
