Santo Domingo. – The First Chamber of the Criminal Court of the Court of First Instance of the Judicial District of Santo Domingo sentenced citizen Ángel Luis Zarzuela Cabrera to six months in prison, after verifying his criminal liability to the detriment of the Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (Edeeste).
In that sense, the court considered the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office sufficient and determined that the defendant violated articles 258 and 259 of the Dominican Penal Code. Furthermore, it ordered that he serve the sentence at La Victoria National Penitentiary.
Likewise, it ordered the payment of compensation of two million pesos in favor of Edeeste, as reparation for the moral and material damages caused by the defendant through conduct that constituted a criminal offense.
The distribution company welcomed the judicial decision, considering that it represents an important precedent in the fight against electricity fraud, irregular connections, and other practices that violate current legal provisions.
