Seoul.– A South Korean court imposed an 18-month prison sentence this Monday on former president Yoon Suk-yeol, after finding him guilty of violating electoral regulations for making false statements during the 2022 presidential campaign.
The judicial decision is related to statements made by Yoon during the electoral process that culminated in his victory in the March elections of that year, as reported by the South Korean agency Yonhap.
The ruling could also generate economic repercussions for the People Power Party (PPP), the political organization to which the former president belongs.

South Korean legislation establishes that the party could have to return some 40 billion won, equivalent to approximately 24 million euros, corresponding to campaign funds received after exceeding 15% of the votes.
The conviction adds to the legal situation facing the former South Korean leader after leaving power.
