The president and CEO of the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana – Macao (CEPM), Rolando González Búnster, explained that solutions for the electricity sector in the face of rising oil prices must be sought with planning and not “with the water up to the neck.”
When questioned by De Último Minuto about how the current rise in oil prices, a product of the war in Iran, affects the country’s electricity generators, he explained that the Government met with the technical part of the generators to see their fuel inventory levels.
“The problem is quite profound, because this country does not produce fuels, oil, gas, but it does produce sun and wind… not always looking for a solution when we already have our backs against the wall, it’s a matter of correct long-term planning,” indicated the energy entrepreneur.
He also reported that in the case of his company, significant investments have been made in the country in gas pipelines, gas terminals and that they have very good long-term gas supply contracts to be able to face this situation more efficiently.
These statements were offered at an event organized by Evergo and Total Energies to inaugurate Evergo Connect Santo Domingo, an ultra-fast charging station to recharge electric vehicles in the Dominican capital, without long waits and integrated into the routine.
