Montecristi – President Luis Abinaderinformed that the Dominican government has received approval from the United States for the construction of an electric cable that will connect the Dominican Republic with Puerto Rico, a project that will allow the export of energy and enhance the use of renewable sources in the region.
During the inauguration of the Manzanillo Power Land, Abinader explained that the cable will facilitate the transmission of energy during the day from renewable plants, generating greater reliability for the national electricity system and offering a new source of external demand for the country’s energy projects.
“The cable to Puerto Rico will be a great success for the entire energy sector of our country, because it not only benefits internal generation, but also opens the possibility of exporting electricity strategically and sustainably,” said the president.
The president highlighted that this initiative is part of an integral plan that combines thermal generation, renewables, and storage, reinforcing the stability of the Dominican electrical system and positioning the country as a benchmark in energy infrastructure in the Caribbean.
