Santo Domingo.– The Government announced new measures to strengthen security and promote economic development in the border zone, including the expansion of the perimeter fence and the construction of a binational market in the Restauración-Tilory area, on the border with Haiti.
The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening territorial control, improving connectivity, and boosting economic opportunities in the border provinces. Authorities explained that the new binational market seeks to organize and strengthen the commercial exchange that takes place in that area, which is considered of great importance for communities on both sides of the border.
The announcement was made during a meeting led by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, together with the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, and the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who presented the main components of the government’s strategy for the border.

According to the authorities, the plan is based on three fundamental pillars: border security, connectivity, and economic development. Likewise, it is part of the strategy called “STRONG,” which integrates actions of defense, infrastructure, economic resilience, and territorial transformation.
Within the infrastructure component, the Government also contemplates the construction and modernization of road corridors, logistics centers, and border control posts equipped with technology to strengthen surveillance and migratory control.

The authorities pointed out that these investments seek to reduce the historical isolation of the border provinces, facilitate formal trade, and generate new employment and development opportunities for the communities in the region.
During the activity, the progress made in the construction of the intelligent perimeter fence was also highlighted, a project that is part of the State’s efforts to strengthen national security, combat illicit activities, and ensure greater control along the border line.
President Abinader reiterated that the border constitutes a priority for his administration and assured that projects aimed at strengthening the sovereignty, security, and economic development of border communities will continue to be executed.
