HOMS highlights the impact of the environment on kidney health

Santiago. – In the framework of World Kidney Day, the Renal Center of the Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago (HOMS) highlighted the importance of prevention and early detection of kidney diseases, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide and that, in many cases, progresses silently, in an activity with patients and family members in its central atrium. In that sense, the director of the Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplant Unit of the HOMS Renal Center, Dr. Eliana Diná, highlighted that environmental factors such as pollution, water quality, exposure to chemicals and other environmental elements can influence the development or aggravation of kidney diseases, which is why it is essential to promote greater awareness of the impact of the environment on health. Faced with this reality, the HOMS Renal Center promotes initiatives aimed at kidney health care, through medical evaluations, specialized diagnostic studies, and clinical follow-up that allow for the timely identification of possible alterations in kidney function.

“At the HOMS Renal Center, we are committed to the prevention, detection, and early care of kidney diseases to reduce the avalanche of patients with terminal illness,” said Dr. Dina.

The HOMS Renal Center has a specialized medical staff of nephrologists, cardiologists, internists, nutritionists, endocrinologists, among other specialties. With a physical installation of 52 hemodialysis stations, manual and automated peritoneal dialysis unit, continuous renal replacement therapies, dialysis therapies in critical areas, suites and emergencies, consultation for preparation and follow-up of kidney transplant, consultation of renal clinical nutrition, psychology and social work, internal pharmacy for high-cost medications and histocompatibility laboratory.

Also, acute and chronic renal replacement therapy such as dialysis, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous therapies and transplant, kidney transplant from living and deceased donors, kidney biopsies of native and graft kidneys, multidisciplinary presentation and discussion of complex cases, academic teaching: residents and nurses, hospitalizations in clinical ward, follow-up in polyvalent, coronary and post-surgical ICU and preoperative evaluations.
