Santo Domingo Este.- The National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi), with the aim of promoting sports practice in educational centers and communities across the country, held a wide-ranging sports, recreational, and health event this weekend in Ciudad Juan Bosch through its programs “Inefi with the Neighborhood” and “Athletes with Inefi,” in addition to participating in “Open and Active Schools,” an initiative of the Ministry of the Presidency, coordinated by the Vice Ministry of Government Monitoring and Coordination, and supported by the Ministry of Education (Minerd).
Between learning, fun, and lots of energy, students from different communities participated in activities of basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton, chess, and karate, enjoying spaces that promote skill development, healthy coexistence, and teamwork.
Residents benefited from the implementation of “Inefi with the Neighborhood”, an initiative that included competitions and exhibitions of chess, 3×3 basketball, soccer, volleyball, and vitilla, as well as a dental clinic for the community.

Through the “Athletes with Inefi” program, prominent figures of Dominican sports shared their experiences and inspired children, youth, and adults through motivational talks. Among the participants were world and Olympic judo medalist María García; the outstanding gymnast Audrys Nin Reyes; Dominican sports immortal in table tennis Blanca Iris Alejo; two-time world bowling champion Aumi Guerra; and Pan American handball medalist Cary Luz Domínguez.

During the activity, Olympic taekwondo medalist Luisito Pie recalled that, since the beginning of Ciudad Juan Bosch, Inefi has maintained an active presence in support of the community’s sports development.
“I am one of the longest-standing residents in this city and I have witnessed its evolution. Thanks to the support of the executive director of Inefi, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, our children and young people have had adequate facilities and the necessary equipment to practice sports and develop their talent,” he expressed.
Pie also highlighted that Rodriguez Mella’s management has contributed to the maintenance of sports spaces in the community and the timely supply of equipment and materials for sports practice.

Open and Active Schools
Likewise, Inefi participated in the “Open and Active Schools” program held on Saturday at the Evangelista de los Santos Polytechnic and the Juan Bosch Primary School.
Former basketball players Alberto Ozuna (Cebollita), José Fortuna (Pancho), and Daniel de la Cruz participated in this event, along with former member of the Reinas del Caribe, Gina Mambrú, who conducted sports clinics in basketball and volleyball.
Similarly, the International Chess Master of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Braulio Ramírez, offered clinics and exhibitions of the science sport in both educational centers, contributing to the development of strategic and cognitive skills in the students.
