Every March 31st, International Transgender Day of Visibility is commemorated, a date dedicated to recognizing the lives, contributions, and struggles of transgender people, as well as to highlight the challenges they still face in different parts of the world.
The initiative was launched in 2009 by American activist Rachel Crandall, with the aim of creating a space for celebration that would highlight the existence and resilience of the trans community, beyond the focus on violence that characterizes other commemorative dates.
Over the years, this day has gained international relevance, being adopted by social organizations, public institutions, and world leaders who promote equal rights, inclusion, and respect for gender diversity.
In this context, activists and human rights defenders reiterate the call to eradicate discrimination, guarantee access to opportunities in areas such as health, education, and employment, and foster a culture of respect that allows transgender people to live with dignity and without fear.
