Jimaní.– The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) inaugurated this Tuesday the first driver’s license office in this municipality of the Independencia province, as part of its process of expansion and strengthening of the services it offers to citizens throughout the national territory.
The opening of this new branch represents an important step forward for the province, by allowing thousands of citizens to carry out their procedures without the need to travel to other jurisdictions, saving time and resources.
During the inaugural event, the executive director of Intrant, Milton Morrison, highlighted that this initiative responds to a historic demand from the province’s inhabitants and reaffirms the institutional commitment to bringing public services closer to the citizenry.
“This opening is part of the efforts of President Luis Abinader’s government to bring services closer to the citizens. Today, Independencia province has an office that responds to a long-awaited need of its inhabitants and will allow access to quality services without having to travel to other provinces,” stated Morrison.
The office is located on the main avenue of the Jimaní municipality, at the Shell gas station facilities, across from the military checkpoint, and will offer services from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon.
Citizens will be able to access services for the renewal and duplication of driver’s licenses in all categories, renewal; duplication of licenses for members of the National Police, as well as the issuance and renewal of licenses for motorcyclists.

The department has specialized personnel for the processes of biometric data capture, photography, fingerprint registration, printing, and document delivery, guaranteeing agile and efficient service to users.
The new office will have the capacity to issue up to 200 driver’s licenses per day and will directly benefit approximately 6,950 vehicle owners in the Independencia province, according to data from the 2024 Vehicle Fleet Report by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII).
Morrison highlighted that this opening is part of the modernization and expansion process of licensing services that the institution is carrying out throughout the country. He indicated that, to date, Intrant has issued nearly 180,000 driver’s licenses under the new model, bringing services closer to more provinces and generating significant time and cost savings for citizens.

During the activity, the provincial governor, Mercedes Nova, and the senator Dagoberto Rodríguez Adames thanked the executive director of Intrant for making the opening of this office possible, highlighting that it is a long-awaited project for the inhabitants of the province.
“For many years our province waited for a project like this. Today we see how this need becomes a reality and how services finally reach closer to our people,” the governor expressed.
For his part, Senator Dagoberto Rodríguez stated that the new office represents a significant step for the development of the province.
“This was a historic demand from the citizens of Independencia. Today, the inhabitants of Jimaní and the entire province will be able to carry out their procedures more easily and quickly, without having to leave their territory,” he stated.
As part of the opening day, Governor Mercedes Nova and Senator Dagoberto Rodríguez Adames carried out the process of renewing their driver’s licenses, becoming the first users to receive the document at the new Jimaní office.
The delivery of the licenses was led by the executive director of Intrant, Milton Morrison, who highlighted the importance of promoting the regularization of drivers and continuing to bring these services closer to the different provinces of the country.
The activity was attended by the Civil Governor of the Independencia province, Mercedes Nova; Senator Dagoberto Rodríguez Adames; the Director of Licenses of Intrant, Augusto Pérez Sánchez, and the Director of Regions of Intrant, Esteban Figuereo Solís, along with provincial and municipal authorities, media representatives, and special guests.
The inauguration included the ribbon-cutting and a tour of the facilities, formally putting into operation the first Intrant driver’s license office in the Independencia province.
