INTRANT reiterates that it will not allow the transit of heavy trucks that violate the law, in order to avoid accidents and save lives

Santo Domingo. – The National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (INTRANT) reiterated that it will not allow the transit of cargo trucks through Restricted Access Zones (ZAR), as part of the traffic regulation and control actions aimed at preventing accidents, reducing risks and saving lives in urban areas with high circulation. The institution explained that this restriction is implemented in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), with the aim of regulating the circulation of heavy transport and preventing it from traveling through unauthorized areas, protecting the safety of drivers, pedestrians and other road users. In that context, INTRANT reported that an institutional commission held a meeting with representatives of the group of truckers who demonstrated, with the purpose of listening to their concerns and explaining the scope of the measure, making it clear that the transit of trucks through restricted access zones is not permitted.

Furthermore, the entity indicated that the events will be followed up on, in order to verify the procedures applied and ensure they comply with current regulations. The institution specified that the protesters do not belong to the Dominican National Transportation Federation (FENATRADO), an organization with which permanent and coordinated communication is maintained on issues related to freight transport. Finally, INTRANT reaffirmed that, together with DIGESETT, it will continue to strengthen controls in Restricted Access Zones, as part of its commitment to safe, orderly and legal mobility, accident prevention and the protection of citizens’ lives.
