After the artistic, popular, and commercial success of ‘Hamnet‘, Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal will work together again in ‘Hold On to Your Angels’, which will be the third film written and directed by Benh Zeitlin.
Set in the backwoods of southern Louisiana, the film, scheduled to begin shooting in February 2027, tells the story of an outlaw condemned to hell (Mescal) and a fierce shepherdess of lost souls (Buckley) who fall madly in love, while their decadent swamp paradise drags them towards the abyss.
“‘Hold On to Your Angels’ is the most impossible love story I’ve ever witnessed. A romance of outlaws for the end of the United States, set in the confines of Southern Louisiana. I’ve dreamed of telling it since its protagonist, Pam Harper, auditioned for ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild‘ seventeen years ago. It’s a love letter to a lifestyle in danger of extinction and a call for empathy on a fractured planet,”, says the aforementioned Zeitlin.
Produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Alex Coco’s Rapt Film (‘Red Rocket’, ‘Anora’), ‘Hold On to Your Angels’ will be one of the many projects attending the “Marché du Film” parallel to the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in search of securing its financing and distribution.
