Jurist and former JCE president Juan Sully Bonnelly Batlle passes away

Santo Domingo.– The country bids farewell today to Dr. Juan Sully Bonnelly Batlle, a prominent lawyer and former president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), remembered for his independence, sobriety, and commitment to public ethics. Son of former Republic President Rafael Filiberto Bonnelly Fondeur and Aída Mercedes Batlle Morell; Bonnelly Batlle consolidated his career in the legal field as one of the most respected jurists in the country. His connection with the Central Electoral Board began in 1994, and in 1997 he assumed the presidency of this institution, from where he played a key role in strengthening the Dominican democratic system.

The news of his death was confirmed by the JCE itself, which expressed its regret for the departure of one of its most distinguished members.

“We express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and to all of society that today says goodbye to an exemplary citizen,” stated the institution’s plenary in an official statement.

The entity also highlighted that Dr. Bonnelly Batlle leaves as a legacy his dedication to public service and his unwavering commitment to institutionalism and transparency in the exercise of his functions.
