With a message addressed both to her supporters and to those who did not back her candidacy, the President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, maintained that the country must bring the electoral stage to a close and concentrate its efforts on building consensus. During a statement, she affirmed that her government will seek to leave behind the years of political confrontation to begin a stage focused on national unity.
The president pointed out that one of the main challenges of her administration will be to regain the trust of the citizenry and demonstrate, with results, that it is possible to reduce the political divisions that have marked the country in recent years. In that context, she remarked that dialogue will be a key tool to advance governance and address the main demands of the population.
“There are no winners or losers, there is only one Peru and we are going to work together”, stated Fujimori, insisting that the election results must become a starting point for a new political stage. Likewise, he maintained that the greatest effort of his administration will be aimed at generating trust among citizens, including those who still have doubts about his government.

“They have generated hatred”
During her speech, the president stated that national reconciliation will be one of the pillars of her term and considered that the country needs to overcome political confrontation to focus on solving the problems that affect the population. In that sense, she maintained that the stage of electoral disputes is behind us and that now it is time to work with a vision for the future.

Fujimori stated that trust between the State and the citizenry cannot be imposed, but must be built through concrete actions. Therefore, she thanked both those who supported her candidacy from the beginning and the citizens who decided to cast their vote for her despite the doubts they held regarding her proposal.
The president also questioned the climate of division that, in her view, characterized previous administrations. “We have to work tirelessly to achieve reconciliation. Our society cannot take any more. Those governments that have passed by generating division and hatred, that is over,” she stated, while reiterating that her administration will seek to strengthen dialogue and promote consensus to boost the country’s development.

The first female president
At another point in her speech, Keiko Fujimori highlighted the significance of becoming the first woman elected president of the Republic by popular vote. The leader stated that this fact represents an advance for female participation in politics and assured that the achievement transcends her election by symbolizing an opportunity for all women in the country.
“I am proud to be the first woman elected by popular vote. It is a great commitment, an enormous responsibility that we assume with deep humility. This achievement is the achievement of women,” she expressed. Furthermore, she noted that she hopes her election serves as inspiration for new generations and for more girls and young women to believe that they can reach their goals through effort and perseverance.

Finally, Fujimori assured that his administration will be focused on building a more prosperous Peru, especially for young people and children. While he acknowledged that the country has significant resources, he maintained that the State has not responded efficiently to the needs of the population in recent years. Therefore, he reiterated that, after the conclusion of the electoral process, the goal of his government will be to work together to promote national development and offer better opportunities to future generations.
