Luis De León calls to defend Dominican sovereignty during the Day of the Race event

Within the framework of the commemoration of Columbus Day, the historian and coordinator of the Fuerza Boschista movement, Luis De León, called this Monday to defend the sovereignty, independence, and national identity of the Dominican Republic, while questioning the Government’s response to recent events related to Haiti.

During a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland, on the occasion of October 12th, De León reflected on the historical significance of this date, which commemorates the arrival of Europeans in America in 1492, and maintained that it should be understood as an encounter between European and Latin American Caribbean cultures, without forgetting the consequences it had for indigenous peoples.

The historian pointed out that the arrival of the Spanish was marked by the search for wealth, exploitation, and the drastic decline of the indigenous population. In his view, this commemoration should serve to strengthen the historical consciousness of Latin American and Caribbean peoples and promote the defense of their self-determination.

De León questions Government’s response to incident with Haitians at the Olympic Stadium

In that context, De León questioned the Government’s actions regarding the incident that occurred during a soccer match at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, considering the decision to suspend the match insufficient.

“The Dominican authorities, the Government behaved, knelt before Haiti,” the historian expressed, while criticizing the official response and maintaining that the country must assume a firmer position regarding situations that, in his view, compromise national sovereignty.

Likewise, he expressed concern regarding the statements attributed to a Haitian soccer player about a possible merger between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, as well as the acts of violence that, as he stated, occurred during the incident at the sports complex.

“What is the Government waiting for, what is the people waiting for, to happen?”, questioned De León, while demanding a firmer response from the institutions and urging political, social, and business organizations to speak out in defense of national sovereignty.

The coordinator of the Boschist Force also expressed concern regarding international pressure surrounding the Haitian crisis and mentioned the United Nations, the United States, France, Canada, and the European Union, to whom he attributed alleged interests related to the creation of a binational state between both countries, without presenting evidence to support that claim.

During his speech, De León recalled the National Independence, proclaimed on February 27, 1844, by Juan Pablo Duarte and the Trinitarians, as well as the Restoration War, which began on August 16, 1863, as events that symbolize the Dominican people’s struggle for their freedom and sovereignty.

The activity concluded with a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland, where, on the occasion of Columbus Day, De León reiterated his call to strengthen national identity, preserve independence, and defend the Dominican Republic’s right to decide its own destiny.
