San Juan.– The Collegiate Court of Las Matas de Farfán sentenced a man to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty of drug trafficking, following the Public Prosecutor’s Office proving that he was transporting more than 20 pounds of marijuana hidden in a vehicle.
The convicted individual was identified as Francis Montero García, who was arrested on October 19, 2025, during an inspection carried out by members of the Dominican Republic Army at the Matayaya military checkpoint, in the municipality of Las Matas de Farfán.
According to the file, the soldiers discovered two bales of a vegetable hidden under the muffler of the car he was driving, a black Hyundai Sonata. The substance was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), which confirmed that it was cannabis sativa (marijuana) weighing 20.26 pounds.
During the trial, prosecutor Dominga Pérez, representing the Public Prosecutor’s Office, presented the evidence that supported the accusation and allowed the court to establish the criminal liability of the defendant.

Judges Blaudy Luciano, Eduard Gerónimo, and Sauly González determined that Montero García committed violations of several articles of Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances, and therefore sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
The sentence establishes that the convicted person must serve the sentence in the public jail of San Juan de la Maguana.
