PEREIRA, COLOMBIA.— The mayor of Pereira, Mauricio Salazar Peláez, announced the suspension of the Fiestas de la Cosecha schedule as part of the measures adopted following the earthquake that affected the city.
The official also reported the implementation of a curfew until 5:00 a.m. in downtown Pereira, the Universidad commune, and the Cuba sub-center, with the aim of protecting the population and facilitating the movement of emergency services.
Salazar Peláez explained that classes were suspended until further notice because several educational facilities have structural damage.

Likewise, the mayor declared a public calamity and manifest urgency to expedite the procurement of goods and services intended to address the emergency and enable shelters for people whose homes were affected.

The authorities also initiated technical assessments of buildings, roads, and other infrastructure to determine the level of damage and establish the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the population.
