More than 60,000 contraband cigarettes seized in operations carried out in Barahona and Independencia

Barahona. – Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), seized sixty thousand four hundred (60,400) units of contraband cigarettes during operations carried out in the provinces of Barahona and Independencia. In a first intervention, carried out in the town of La Lista de Cabral, Barahona province, members of the 5th Infantry Brigade seized two hundred and two (202) packs of Capital brand cigarettes, equivalent to forty thousand four hundred (40,400) units, which were hidden in a tunnel-type compartment of a white Mitsubishi Fuso truck. The vehicle was driven by José Armando Nova Matos, who was accompanied by Yenori Alexander Moquete Matos.

In a second operation, carried out at the Florida Checkpoint, ERD, soldiers of the ERD seized another one hundred (100) packs of Capital brand cigarettes, equivalent to twenty thousand (20,000) units, which were hidden in a Honda Pilot jeep, gray color, license plate G239285, driven by Gabriel Cuevas Pérez. Both the driver and the illicit merchandise were transferred to the headquarters of the 14th Infantry Battalion, based in Jimaní, to be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry, in accordance with the law. The Dominican Republic Army reaffirms its commitment to continue anti-smuggling operations and support other state institutions, with the aim of ensuring compliance with current laws.
