Mother Denounces Alleged Harassment and Police Abuse Against Her Son in Jarabacoa

Jarabacoa.– Mrs. Felicia Henríquez, mother of Félix Humberto, publicly denounced an alleged persecution by agents of the National Police in the municipality of Jarabacoa, assuring that her son lives in constant distress due to the actions she attributes to members of the law enforcement agency. According to the mother, her son had a life on the streets in the past, but she affirmed that he has been reformed for some time and maintains a calm demeanor. However, she maintains that at least four police officers constantly pursue him, to the point that —she assures— he cannot even stand still in front of the door of his home without being arrested. Henríquez alleged that these arrests occur with physical aggressions and that, on several occasions, the agents had used electric pistols against her son. She added that, when she, as a mother, tries to intervene in his defense, the agents have allegedly thrown pepper spray at her. He also denounced that in one of the incidents, the agents allegedly stole the sum of 10,000 pesos that his son was carrying in his pocket, money that, according to him, was intended for the payment of his rent. Mrs. Felicia Henríquez called on the competent authorities to investigate these events. She asked that her son be allowed to live in peace and that action be taken to prevent what she calls repeated abuses. For his part, Félix Humberto also offered his testimony, narrating in detail the situations that, according to him, he constantly faces with agents of the National Police in Jarabacoa.
