San Juan, Puerto Rico.– Every July 31st, Puerto Rico commemorates National Journalist’s Day, a date dedicated to honoring the work of communication professionals and recognizing the essential role they play in defending freedom of expression, access to information, and the strengthening of democracy.
The anniversary pays tribute to men and women who, from the written press, radio, television, and digital platforms, work daily to keep the citizenry informed with adherence to truth, ethics, and the public interest.
The celebration also invites reflection on the challenges currently facing journalism, including the proliferation of disinformation, threats against press freedom, the digital transformation of media, and the need to guarantee conditions that allow communicators to carry out their work with independence and safety.

Within the framework of this date, journalistic unions, universities, media outlets, and public and private institutions carry out recognition activities, conferences, and meetings aimed at highlighting the careers of prominent journalists and promoting the importance of responsible journalism.
