Bayahíbe.– The Bayahíbe Fire Department reported that the number of people injured following the explosion of a boat near Saona Island has risen to 23.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred while the vessel was sailing back toward the coast, which triggered a large-scale rescue operation involving civilian vessels and units of the Dominican Republic Navy to assist the occupants.
The Directorate of Out-of-Hospital Emergency Care (DAEH) coordinated the transfer of the injured to various health centers. A total of 16 patients were taken to the Central Romana Medical Center, while another seven received assistance at the Canela I Hospital, where they remain under medical evaluation due to the injuries sustained, primarily from burns.

Meanwhile, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Tourist Police (Politur) are keeping the area secured while investigations are underway to determine the causes that led to the explosion.
