Lima.– The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) urged Peruvian authorities to accelerate the release of the presidential runoff results, amidst an electoral process marked by a minimal difference between the candidates and growing public expectation.
The agency considered it necessary to strengthen the institutional mechanisms that allow for providing preliminary information more quickly, without compromising the transparency and reliability of the scrutiny. The recommendation comes as the official count continues to advance and there are still votes remaining from abroad and records subject to review.
The OAS mission reiterated the importance of citizens awaiting the final results within the democratic and institutional framework, avoiding speculation that could generate tensions in the political environment.

According to the official count, the race between Roberto Sánchez and Keiko Fujimori remains extremely close, with a difference of just tens of thousands of votes with over 95% of the ballots counted.
The organization highlighted that the voting process took place in a peaceful and orderly manner, although it pointed out that the delay in consolidating the results highlights the need to modernize some procedures related to the transmission and processing of electoral records.

Likewise, the observer mission insisted that any future improvement must be aimed at offering greater speed and certainty to voters, always preserving the principles of legality, transparency, and security of the electoral process.
Peruvian electoral authorities have indicated that the final count could extend for several weeks due to the review of challenged records, appeals, and the incorporation of votes cast abroad.
The OAS maintains observers deployed in different regions of the country and will continue to monitor the process until the official proclamation of the results.
