Paraguay’s Public Prosecutor’s Office adds 28 femicides so far in 2025, which left 51 orphans

Asunción.- The Paraguayan Public Prosecutor’s Office recorded 28 femicides so far this year, which left a total of 51 orphans, the institution reported this Thursday in a statement. According to a report from the Public Prosecutor’s Open Data program, from January to September 18th, 25 open investigations for femicide were registered, 41 victims of attempted femicide, and two cases of homicide in contexts of violence against women. Regarding the aggressor’s relationship, 20 of them were their partners, but among the accused there is also a stepfather, a son-in-law, an acquaintance, a father, and four ex-partners.

The 28 women were of Paraguayan nationality, one of them belonged to an indigenous community and 21 victims were mothers. The report highlighted that, on average, there were six cases of cruelty, such as in the case of a victim who was “dismembered and decapitated”, and in another, the woman suffered blows and was “burned by the aggressor”. The victims’ ages ranged from 12 to 80 years old, while the ages of the aggressors ranged from 17 to 80 years old. From the total, 26 alleged perpetrators are charged by the Public Ministry and two committed suicide. In addition, from January to September, the Prosecutor’s Office assisted 25,000 victims of domestic violence, mostly in the capital, Asunción, and in the departments of Central, Alto Paraná (east) and Caaguazú (center-north).
