Santo Domingo. – The General Directorate of Passports (DGP) announced the temporary suspension of the additional fee applied for the loss or deterioration of passport booklets, a measure that will be in effect until December 2026 and which seeks to facilitate the transition of citizens to the new electronic passport.
The provision will allow users who need to replace a lost or damaged booklet to carry out the process without paying the surcharges that are traditionally applied in these cases, maintaining only the costs corresponding to the regular service of issuance or renewal of the document.

The entity explained that the measure is part of the actions aimed at streamlining the adoption of the electronic passport and facilitating the population’s access to this new travel document, which incorporates higher security and technology standards.
User facilities
The temporary suspension will benefit both citizens whose passports have been lost and those whose booklets have physical damage requiring replacement. To complete the process, applicants must meet the requirements established by the institution for each type of procedure.
The General Directorate of Passports has implemented various measures in recent months to expand access to its services, including the possibility of renewing a passport regardless of the current document’s expiration date, as part of the entity’s modernization process.
Boost for the electronic passport
The authorities reiterated that the main objective is to ensure that a greater number of citizens can obtain the electronic passport quickly and accessibly, strengthening document security and facilitating international migration processes.
The DGP reminded that users can obtain additional information about requirements, costs, and appointments through the institution’s official channels and the offices enabled throughout the country.
