Santo Domingo.- A court imposed periodic reporting as a coercive measure against a man prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office after being arrested on August 1st with an undocumented shotgun and a monitor, amidst the investigation into the fire that occurred at a furniture and appliance store in Santo Domingo Este.
The measure was imposed on Luis Javier Castillo De La Rosa by the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santo Domingo East, which ordered his periodic appearance before the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the request for a coercive measure, around 2:15 in the afternoon on August 1, 2026, Castillo De La Rosa was arrested in flagrante delicto on Marginal Avenue, at kilometer 13 of the Las Américas highway, in the Los Frailes Segundo sector, Santo Domingo East.
During the arrest, the authorities seized a black case containing a Maverick shotgun, 12 gauge, serial number MV55418N, without documentation and owned by a security company. A black AOC brand monitor, approximately 20 inches, was also seized from him.
According to the file, the defendant explained that he was passing through the area when he noticed that another person had dropped the bag and decided to pick it up, at which moment he was surprised by the acting officer.

The fire occurred at a branch of the L&R Comercial establishment, located on the Marginal of the Las Américas highway. After the incident, several people were detained for investigation purposes due to the alleged theft of appliances and other items from the establishment.
As part of the investigation, the authorities recovered the shotgun and most of the items that had been stolen.
During the hearing, the Public Prosecutor’s Office presented testimonial and documentary evidence, including a copy of the private license for the possession of firearms, dated May 26, 2009, which establishes that the shotgun belongs to a private company.

The prosecuting body had requested the imposition of the measures provided for in numerals 1, 2, and 3, consisting of a financial guarantee, a travel ban, and periodic reporting, with the objective of ensuring the defendant’s presence during the different stages of the process.
Prosecutor Felipe Cuevas Féliz, of the Santo Domingo East Prosecutor’s Office, provisionally attributed to the defendant the violation of articles 379 and 401 of the former Dominican Penal Code, which define and punish simple theft, as well as articles 66 and 67 of Law 631-16, on the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.
