Lima.- The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Peru, where he was bishop of Chiclayo and developed a large part of his pastoral life, is scheduled “starting November 10,” as announced this Sunday by the interim president of the Andean country, José María Balcázar.
In brief statements after casting his vote in the presidential runoff election, Balcázar revealed the possible date on which the pontiff would return to the country that has adopted him as “the Peruvian pope,” who is visiting Spain this weekend.
The announcement of the eventual visit to Peru was made last February by the then-Peruvian Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela, who indicated that the Government authorities had extended an official invitation to Leo XIV.

Days later, the Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP) assured that it was being scheduled for November or early December of this year, and that the trip was “80%” confirmed, since the pontiff “wishes to visit Peru, because he loves Peru and has great gratitude for the country,” as stated at the time by the president of the CEP, Carlos García.

The forecast is that Robert Prevost will be able to visit Lima and Chiclayo, a city located on the northern coast of Peru, about 760 kilometers north of Lima, in addition to a third location that could be in the Peruvian Amazon, with which the Pope also has a connection.
The current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Pareja, also anticipated this week that the visit of Leon XIV to Peru would be part of a tour that would also include two other countries.
