Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader has ordered the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) to implement a capacity and aptitude assessment process aimed at students starting in the fifth year of high school, as part of the educational transformation promoted by the Dominican government.
The measure seeks to identify the aptitudes, interests, and skills of young people early on to guide them toward academic, technical, and professional areas in line with their capabilities, facilitating a better transition between pre-university education and higher education.
The provision is part of the national educational reform strategy promoted by the Executive Branch, which seeks to adapt the education system to the needs of the labor market, technological development, and the challenges of the so-called fourth industrial revolution.
In accordance with what has been proposed by educational authorities, the goal is for students to receive timely guidance before finishing high school, allowing them to make more informed decisions regarding university degrees, technical programs, or areas of specialization that best suit their talents and life projects.

The initiative will be led by MESCYT, the institution that will coordinate the evaluation and support mechanisms, in coordination with the pre-university education system and other organizations linked to the sector.

As explained by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía, the educational transformation promoted by the Government includes a comprehensive review of the curriculum, more flexible training paths, and greater articulation between secondary, technical, and university education. Likewise, it seeks to reduce school dropout rates and facilitate the labor insertion of young people through certifications and programs adapted to their individual capabilities.
The proposal also seeks to strengthen training in scientific, technological, and innovation areas, which are considered fundamental to responding to the demands of future jobs and improving the country’s competitiveness.
With this measure, the Government intends for students to reach higher education with a clearer orientation regarding their skills and vocations, contributing to better planning of their academic and professional path.
