Santo Domingo, DR. — The Progressive Youth Foundation concluded the sixth National Coastal Cleanup Day with the participation of 1,341 volunteers and the collection of 56,966.5 pounds of solid waste across 21 beaches and coastal areas in different provinces of the country.
The initiative, developed within the framework of World Oceans Day, included 27 environmental sessions held over four weekends in June, after several activities were rescheduled due to weather conditions caused by troughs that affected the national territory.
Work began on June 6 with interventions in areas such as Las Terrenas, Playa Los Almendros, La Caleta Underwater Park, Andrés, Boca Chica, and Playa Guayacanes, with the support of companies, community organizations, and volunteers.
Subsequently, the sessions continued in spaces such as Playa de Pescadores, Playa Güibia, Playa Najayo, and Playa de las Tortugas, while the closing of the program included cleaning efforts at Playa Sabana de la Mar, Playa El Maleconcito, and the Catalina Natural Pool.

The Progressive Youth Foundation highlighted that the event was backed by the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic and Plastiflex, in addition to the support of companies and institutions such as Domicem, United Petroleum, IKEA, Dominican Civil Defense, Vida Azul, and various community organizations.

As a result of the national operation, 21 coastal areas were intervened, where participants removed thousands of pounds of waste with the goal of contributing to the protection of marine ecosystems and promoting greater environmental awareness.
The president of the Progressive Youth Foundation, Mayker Méndez, highlighted the commitment shown by the volunteers and sectors that joined the initiative.
“Every volunteer, every company, and every institution that decided to join this cause demonstrates that it is possible to generate real change when we work united for the same purpose,” stated Méndez, while reaffirming the commitment to continue promoting actions in favor of environmental conservation.

The entity reported that it will continue to develop programs focused on environmental protection, youth leadership, civic education, community health, and sustainable development, with the purpose of strengthening the participation of Dominican youth in social impact initiatives.
