San José de Ocoa. – The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) intensified the work to restore road safety on the Ocoa–Cruce de Ocoa highway, following the recent landslides recorded on this important section.
Minister Eduardo Estrella supervised the work in the area, where traffic has already been partially restored under strict precautionary measures. During the tour, he verified the progress in the construction of a provisional bypass, considered as an immediate solution while definitive alternatives are defined.
“This is a road that has presented problems for decades. We are working on a provisional detour to ensure safe transit. The most important thing is to preserve lives and avoid the prolonged closure of the road,” said the official.
Estrella explained that the work will be kept under constant monitoring, especially given the predicted rains, which could compromise the stability of the terrain.
He also highlighted the support of President Luis Abinader in the intervention. “There is a direct concern from the president. We are working permanently with contractors and technical teams to ensure the safety and continuity of transit,” he indicated.
The MOPC head urged the population to proceed with caution through the intervened area, in order to avoid incidents while the works progress.
Bridge construction advances in Peravia
After his visit to Ocoa, the minister moved to the province of Peravia, where he supervised the construction of two new bridges as part of the national plan for resilience and infrastructure maintenance.
On the Galión bridge, work is progressing with the execution of the main abutments, while on the Los Hierros bridge, which will connect the Pueblo Nuevo and Fundación sectors, in the municipality of Baní, the work is in its final phase.
These interventions are part of a program that impacts dozens of infrastructures throughout the country, with the aim of strengthening connectivity and road safety.
