Santo Domingo Este.- Residents of the Jardines del V Centenario sector reported the deterioration of their streets, problems with storm drainage, and an increase in crime.
During a tour of the area, resident Pedro Antonio Brito asserted that, despite asphalt and infrastructure work having been carried out in nearby sectors, his community remains in a state of neglect.
“They have fixed all the streets, but this is the only neighborhood that has been left without good streets. They haven’t paved or done anything here. They have forgotten about this sector and we pay taxes too,” expressed Brito.
Residents explained that every time it rains, the roads flood due to the lack of an adequate drainage system, a situation that hinders the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, in addition to causing the accelerated deterioration of the streets.

Likewise, residents reported that insecurity represents another of the community’s main concerns.
According to reports, in some areas it is dangerous to travel due to the constant presence of criminals.

“There is an incline where you cannot walk at night because crime is rampant. Robberies happen frequently and residents live in fear,” stated Brito.
Likewise, another resident identified only as Silverio indicated that crime levels are high and “it is not possible to walk the streets at any time“.
“I was mugged while walking, I thank God that at least they left me alive,” the resident indicated.
Faced with this situation, community members called on municipal and central government authorities to include the Jardines del V Centenario urbanization in asphalt paving, street repair, drainage construction, and citizen security strengthening programs, with the goal of improving the quality of life for the families residing in the sector.
