Santo Domingo.- Residents of 9th Street, in the Los Praditos sector, expressed their support for the road expansion works being carried out by the Ministry of Housing, considering that the project will contribute to reducing traffic congestion and improving mobility in one of the areas with the highest vehicular flow in the National District.
Although some community members understand that the work could progress more quickly, the majority agree that the project will bring significant benefits for drivers, pedestrians, and residents, who for years have faced difficulties due to the limited space of the road.
Francisco José Carrasco, known as “Chicho”, assured that the work is progressing at a good pace considering the magnitude of the project, which has required the demolition of several buildings to widen the road.
“This has been going on for about six months and it is moving very fast. First, they had to demolish many houses and apartments. The owners had their properties bought from them; it was not a forced eviction,” he stated.
Along the same lines, Serbio considered that the expansion will allow for the reduction of the constant traffic jams that were recorded in the area and will facilitate the movement of those who travel through the sector daily.

“It is going to benefit many people. Before, the street was very narrow and there were many traffic jams. Now, there is very little left to finish and, thank God, that is being resolved,” he expressed.

For his part, Alfonso Pineda maintained that the people whose properties were seized received compensation, while the tenants were assisted during the eviction process.
Although Domingo pointed out that he expected a higher level of progress, he also acknowledged that he prefers to wait for the conclusion of the work to evaluate the final result of the intervention and the impact it will have on the community.

The expansion of 9th Street is part of a road interconnection project that seeks to connect this road with the Fernández and Los Prados urbanizations, in the National District. The initiative also contemplates the intervention of 11th and 6th streets, with the purpose of improving vehicular circulation in that area of the capital.
The project will also include urban murals, lighting, a playground, public parking areas, and measures to reinforce security. The works, executed by the company Demicom, have an estimated investment of 150 million pesos and a projected execution time of 18 months, provided that weather conditions permit.
