Santo Domingo.- The president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía Oviedo, assured this Friday that the public’s response to the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 has exceeded the organization’s expectations, which points to a “record attendance” during the final stretch of the competition.
“We are doing very well, we have plenty, we are cheerful, happy, and we have full confidence, the certainty that we are going to move forward and above all, the most important thing is the support of the people, we are developing the games without any issues and with just about a week left until the games, we just need to work so that the next one turns out as well as this one,” stated Oviedo.
Although he indicated that official attendance figures are not yet available, the leader maintained that the high demand recorded for the final days will allow the organization to exceed its initial projections.
“No, I don’t have it, but I am realizing that due to the demand for what remains of this week, it is going to exceed our expectations and I think we are going to achieve record participation figures in this type of game,” he stated.

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games enter their decisive phase with the determination of medals in various disciplines and a growing presence of fans in the different sports venues of Santo Domingo, a support that, according to the organization, outlines a historic edition in terms of attendance.
The so-called ‘Centennial Games’, whose first edition was held in Mexico in 1926, will run until August 8 and bring together some 6,200 athletes competing in 40 sports and 53 disciplines.
The Dominican Republic hosts the Central American and Caribbean Games for the third time, following the editions of Santo Domingo 1974 and Santiago 1986.
