New York .- Researchers at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York discovered more than 70 new species this year, including two extinct dinosaurs, a scorpion from Venezuela, dozens of bees, a shrew opossum from the Peruvian Andes, and even a new mineral from the volcanic rocks of Russia.
The discoveries of this 2025 by researchers encompass dinosaurs, mammals, fish, reptiles, insects, arachnids, marine invertebrates and a mineral, which means expanding an “extraordinary diversity of life forms”, AMNH announced in a statement.
The two dinosaurs discovered are species of feathered dinosaurs that lived about 125 million years ago in what is now China, and one of them was found with two more skeletons in its abdomen, the remains of its last meal.
The new mineral has been categorized as Lucasite-La, and it was found inside a volcanic rock in Russia.

Many of the species discovered in Latin America
Of the 70 species discovered, a new genus of sea anemone located on the Atlantic side of Mexico, a mouse opossum found in a remote area of the Peruvian Andes, and a short-tailed whip scorpion in the Venezuelan Amazon are included.
Furthermore, they found fossils of four species of sap flies trapped in resin from a tree in the Dominican Republic and another fossil of a new type of digger bee in Chile.
“The discovered species continue to reveal new knowledge and remind us how much there is still to learn about life on our planet,” said the Vice President and Provost of Sciences at the Museum, Cheryl Hayashi.
