The “Final Six” kicks off this Thursday with matches between the champion teams of each zone of Greater Santo Domingo.
Santo Domingo.– The Interbarrial Basketball Tournament Gran Santo Domingo 2026, organized by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), enters its decisive stage from this Thursday with the start of the so-called “Final Six”, where the six zone champion teams that managed to advance after an intense elimination phase will compete.
The games will begin this Thursday, May 28, at the Mauricio Báez Club, the venue where the representatives of Barrio Mejoramiento Social (BAMESO) and La Guayiga will face each other at 6:30 in the evening, while in the second match of the day El Batey Guaricano and Monte Adentro will clash, starting at 7:45 p.m.
The action will continue on Friday, May 29 at Club Los Cachorros, with the matches between El Brisal and Las Caobas, first thing, followed by the clash between the winners of the two opening matches on Thursday.
The final round calendar will follow on Saturday, May 30th at the Mauricio Báez Club, and will conclude on Monday, June 1st when the champion of the event dedicated to Federico Lalane José is defined.

The six classified sets represent the different zones of the National District and Santo Domingo province, after overcoming an extensive competitive process in which more than 150 teams participated in the under-20 category.

The tournament was recently inaugurated by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, during an event held at the Tony Barreiro Sports Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

As an incentive for effort and discipline, the tournament’s champion team will receive a prize of one million pesos, while the winning teams from each zone have already obtained prizes of RD$250 thousand.
Minister Kelvin Cruz highlighted that this event is part of the sports revolution that the Government is promoting in the neighborhoods of Greater Santo Domingo, including the renovation of more than 30 sports courts to guarantee adequate and safe spaces for young people.
