Los Ángeles.- The Mexican actor
Diego Luna will join the cast of the live-action of
Tangled, the new adaptation that
Disney is preparing about one of its most recent animated hits.
According to the American magazine
The Hollywood Reporter, the character that Luna will play has been created exclusively for this version and does not appear in the original animated film. Details about this role remain under strict reserve, in line with the confidentiality policy that characterizes the production.
The incorporation of Luna joins a main cast already confirmed a few months ago.
Tangled will star
Teagan Croft (Titans) in the role of Rapunzel, the princess with magical hair, and
Milo Manheim (Zombies) as Flynn Rider, the charismatic thief who accompanies her on her adventure. Both actors were selected after an international casting process, according to sources linked to the project.
The film, inspired by the Grimm brothers’ tale of Rapunzel, grossed over
USD 590 million worldwide in its animated version released in 2010, establishing itself as one of Disney’s biggest recent global box office successes.

The cast is completed by
Kathryn Hahn, who will embody Mother Gothel, the villain who kidnaps Rapunzel to exploit the rejuvenating properties of her hair. The incorporation of the Marvel star was one of the most celebrated by fans when it was announced in March 2026.
The direction will be in charge of
Michael Gracey, known for his work on
The Greatest Showman and on the biopic
Better Man about Robbie Williams. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the director plans to preserve the musical numbers, a central element in the animated film.
The script was written by
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and
Michael Montemayor, while production falls to
Kristin Burr, who has already collaborated with Disney on projects such as
Cruella. The supervision of the development is in the hands of
Jessica Virtue as executive producer for Disney Live Action, according to
The Hollywood Reporter.

The filming is scheduled to begin in
Spain in June 2026. So far, Disney has not announced the official release date.
Diego Luna’s participation in
Tangled strengthens his bond with Disney, a studio with which he already collaborated by starring in the series
Andor from the
Star Wars universe. In this production, Luna played the main role and received critical acclaim, including nominations for the
Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice.
