The OAS calls for integrity in the election of the Attorney General in Guatemala

The Organization of American States (OAS) requested to guarantee transparency and integrity in the selection process of the next Attorney General of Guatemala, during a meeting held with President Bernardo Arévalo.

The call was made within the framework of a meeting with a special mission from the regional organization, which is monitoring the institutional situation of the country. The OAS emphasized the importance of the list of candidates being formed under objective, independent criteria, and free from any type of political interference.

During the meeting, key aspects related to the strengthening of the rule of law and the need to ensure transparent processes in the appointment of judicial authorities were addressed. In that sense, the international organization reiterated that the election of the Attorney General is a crucial point for democratic institutions in Guatemala.

For his part, President Arévalo reaffirmed his commitment to legality and transparency, highlighting the importance of the process being carried out respecting constitutional principles.
