Havana.- The Cuban Government responded to the recent statements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who hinted at a possible action against the island after the conflict in Iran, and assured that “no aggressor, no matter how powerful, will find surrender in Cuba”.
The Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, described Trump’s statements as a “dangerous and unprecedented escalation” and urged the international community and the American people to reject any attempt at aggression against the Caribbean nation.
Through social media, Díaz-Canel affirmed that Cuba will defend “sovereignty and independence in every inch of national territory” and reiterated that the country will not yield to external pressures.
Tensions escalated after Trump declared during an event in Florida that, once the war in Iran is over, the United States could “take Cuba almost immediately.” The president also mentioned the possible deployment of an aircraft carrier near the island as a pressure tactic.
In parallel, the US administration tightened economic sanctions against Cuba through a new executive order that expands restrictions on individuals and companies linked to strategic sectors of the Cuban economy, including energy, mining, and defense.
For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla reiterated that Havana will not negotiate with Washington political or economic reforms related to the country’s internal system.
“We will never discuss with the United States issues that concern solely the sovereignty and free determination of the Cuban people,” Rodríguez stated during an international meeting with union leaders and activists.
The statements are made amidst the energy and economic crisis that Cuba has been experiencing since the beginning of 2026, aggravated by restrictions on the supply of oil and the tightening of the US embargo.
