Washington.- The speech that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, will give this Saturday at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the first he attends after having boycotted it in the past, will be “very entertaining”, said the Administration’s spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, this Friday.
“I think it’s very appropriate that, on the 250th anniversary of our nation, the most transparent and accessible president attends the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for the first time, and his speech will be very entertaining, I assure you,” Leavitt told the press.
The White House Correspondents’ Association, which brings together reporters who cover the president, organizes a grand gala dinner in Washington every year, attended by politicians, journalists, and business people to celebrate freedom of the press.
Since 1924, all presidents have attended the event at some point, except Trump, who boycotted it during his first term (2017-2021) and also last year due to his tense relationship with the media.

The Republican leader announced last March that he accepted this year’s invitation to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence and because the press, which in the past was “extraordinarily bad” with him, now recognizes that he is “one of the best presidents in history,” he said.
Oz Pearlman replaces the comedian
“It will be an honor for me to accept your invitation and work to make it the grandest, most exciting, and most spectacular dinner in history,” he declared.
This year’s gala will not feature, as usual, a comedian in charge of making fun of the president and the press, but will have mentalist Oz Pearlman as a guest artist.
The event takes place while Trump escalates criticism against the media for their coverage of the Iran war and after having filed defamation lawsuits against several news companies.
The Correspondents’ Dinner, one of the most prominent social events in the American capital, has been criticized for its opulence and for the apparent collusion between the press and political power.
