UNPHU boosts the presence of Dominican architecture at an important international event in Barcelona
Santo Domingo. The Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) will be the setting for the launch of the initiative “The Value of Being an Architect. Mission of Dominican Architects in Barcelona”, a project that seeks to promote the talent, creativity and contributions of Dominican architecture in the international arena.
The official presentation will take place on May 28th and will serve as a starting point for the participation of a national delegation in the UIA Barcelona 2026 World Congress of Architects, considered one of the most relevant meetings for professionals and academics in the sector globally.
The proposal is coordinated by Architectum and We Creart Memories, along with the School of Architecture and Urbanism of UNPHU, with the support of the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona, the Institute of Dominicans and Dominican Women Abroad (INDEX), as well as various entities linked to professional and cultural development.
The event will bring together architects, urban planners, teachers, students, and representatives of institutions related to design and culture, who will share a space oriented towards dialogue, reflection, and the construction of new opportunities for international collaboration.
During the day, the objectives, scope, and activities that will be part of the Dominican mission that will participate in Barcelona will be announced, a city that holds the recognition of World Capital of Architecture and that will host thousands of professionals from different countries.
As part of the agenda, attendees will be able to enjoy the screening of the documentary “Time and Form”, a production that highlights the evolution and values of architecture through the eyes of prominent professionals in the field.
Also, the photographic exhibition “Constructed Tropics: Architectures of Identity between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean” will be inaugurated, an exhibition that analyzes the historical, cultural, and aesthetic links present in the constructions of both regions.
The activity is part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of UNPHU, an institution that reaffirms its commitment to academic training, innovation, and the promotion of spaces that contribute to the strengthening of Dominican architecture and its projection beyond national borders.
