What is Colon Cancer?

Colon cancer is a pathology that occurs due to abnormal growth of cells in the colon and rectal area. Everything starts with the growth of polyps, which can transform, over the years, into cancer, however, there are cases of patients where this does not happen. This type of cancer is quite common worldwide, but with timely evaluation, it can be easily detected and treated, with very favorable results for patients, as they can save their lives.

Risk Factors for the Disease

Among the most common risk factors for contracting colon cancer are family history, the patient’s age, and having suffered from some pathologies such as ulcerative colitis, the so-called Crohn’s disease, or inflammatory diseases of the digestive system. Also, there are external risk factors related to diet and the consumption of toxic substances such as cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs. When the diet is low in fiber and nutrients and, in addition, harmful substances are used, it is quite likely that people may present this type of disease.
