Montevideo.-<\/strong> The Government of Uruguay<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>decreed today national mourning <\/strong>until next May 16<\/strong> after the death of former President Jos\u00e9 Mujica,<\/a><\/strong> who died this Tuesday in Montevideo at the age of 89 and who will be veiled from tomorrow Wednesday in the Legislative Palace of Montevideo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Official mourning, of a national nature, is declared for the days 14 to 16, for the death of the former President of the Republic, Jos\u00e9 Alberto Mujica Cordano”, indicates the decree signed by Yamand\u00fa Orsi.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

According to this, the flag of Uruguay will remain at half-mast in all public buildings, embassies of the Republic abroad, barracks, fortresses, air bases and warships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Mujica’s mortal remains will have funeral honors of President of the Republic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funeral procession will depart at 10:00 local time (13:00 GMT) from the Torre Ejecutiva de Montevideo<\/strong> and will march along 18 de Julio Avenue – the main thoroughfare of Montevideo – to the headquarters of the National Liberation Movement Tupamaros. Later it will pass through the headquarters of the Movimiento de Participaci\u00f3n Popular and the Frente Amplio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 15:00 local time (18:00 GMT) the wake will begin, which will take place in the Hall of Lost Steps of the Legislative Palace of Montevideo, where the general public will be able to enter. For the moment it is not confirmed whether it will extend for 24 hours or 36.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transfer of Mujica’s mortal remains to the cemetery for cremation will be private.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

‘Pepe’ Mujica passed away this Tuesday in Montevideo at the age of 89, a year after a malignant tumor was discovered in his esophagus and when he was a week away from turning ninety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With deep sorrow we announce the passing of our colleague Pepe Mujica. President, militant, reference and leader. We will miss you very much, dear Old Man. Thank you for everything you gave us and for your deep love for your people,” announced the current president of the South American country, Yamand\u00fa Orsi, on his X account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 29th of last year, Mujica announced in a press conference that he had a tumor in his esophagus. Shortly after, he revealed that it was malignant and that it had to be treated with radiotherapy, a procedure to which he was subjected in Montevideo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
