Puerto Plata.- The\u00a0Marineros de Puerto Plata<\/strong>\u00a0retired the\u00a0number 10<\/strong>\u00a0used by the Puerto Plata Sports Hall of Fame,\u00a0Marlon Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>\u00a0(Rey).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marlon Mart\u00ednez<\/strong> V\u00e1squez was born in San Felipe de Puerto Plata on January 17<\/strong>, 1979. “The King” earned his nickname for the results achieved on the court in a prolific career in the sport of hoops and the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mart\u00ednez, 45, was the\u00a0first superstar<\/strong>\u00a0from Puerto Plata on foreign beaches and in the national team. In 9 seasons in the National Basketball League, he scored 1490 points, grabbed 829 rebounds, 252 assists, 93 blocks, 95 steals and played 102 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The retirement was held at the roofed <\/strong>Fabio Rafael Gonz\u00e1lez during the game between Leones de Santo Domingo and Marineros de Puerto Plata<\/strong>, with the victory<\/strong> of the locals 80-66.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Thank you, Puerto Plata, thank you, with this recognition I close the cycle<\/strong> in sports in Puerto Plata,” were the words of an emotional Marlon Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>, when he was allowed to address those present. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mart\u00ednez becomes the first player to have his number retired in two top tournaments<\/strong> of the country and in the National Basketball<\/strong> League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His number 10 jersey was retired by the Sameji team in Santiago<\/strong> in 2022 and by his lifelong club Batey Tres<\/strong> from Puerto Plata, in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the emotional activity, the so-called Rey or F10<\/strong> was accompanied by family, friends and former teammates from both the national team, Club Sameji, Batey Tres and Marineros, among whom were Carlos Payano, Jos\u00e9 Fortuna, Kelvin Pe\u00f1a, Miguel Mart\u00ednez (Chocho Loco), among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was a member of the representative teams<\/strong> of Puerto Plata that were in the finals<\/strong> of 2001 versus Villa Francisca (lidoba version) and Ca\u00f1eros de la Romana in 2010.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
