Madrid.-<\/strong> The main Spanish agricultural organizations have asked the Government <\/a>to limit imports of Ukrainian grain and activate “urgent” aid for the sector, as imports of white wheat have multiplied in the EU since the war began and have distorted the markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asaja, Coag, and UPA have sent a joint letter to the Minister of Agriculture<\/a>, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, to denounce the critical situation of Spanish cereal farmers, as reported this Friday in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Despite the favorable weather this year, the collapse of prices at origin and the unstoppable increase in production costs have led the sector to a situation of widespread losses,” those professional associations have lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With just a few days left until the harvest begins, this year’s campaign is presenting “red numbers” for national farmers, they have warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, they have accused the EU of having made a “serious mistake” by allowing a “massive entry” of grain from Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, they have requested an “immediate” review of the trade agreement with Ukraine, establishing limits on the entry of wheat and barley to allow the survival of the European producer and the implementation of a line of specific economic aid for Spanish cereal farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
