Miami (USA).- <\/strong>The National Hurricane Center (NHC)<\/strong> of the USA declared itself this Friday “ready” for the Atlantic hurricane season<\/strong>, which begins on Sunday, despite the funding cuts in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)<\/strong> and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).<\/p>\n\n\nThe director of the NHC, Michael Brennan<\/strong>, assured today that the agency is ready “as always” for a more active than normal season despite a document being leaked to the media in which FEMA admits that it is not prepared while facing a possible decrease of 646 million dollars in its resources.\n\n\n

“Well, we’re ready here. What I can speak to directly is the preparation of us here, of us and the team here at the National Hurricane Center,” expressed Brennan when questioned by the press.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n“We are ready to meet the needs of the emergency management community across the country,” he added.\n\n\n

Concerns are growing on the eve of hurricane season because ‘President Donald Trump’s Great and Beautiful Bill’<\/strong>, which the House of Representatives approved last week and still needs to be endorsed by the Senate, includes an annual cut of almost 30% to NOAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, since March, the Trump Administration has asked NOAA for an additional cut of 1,000 workers, 20% of the workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite this, Gladys Rubio,<\/strong> meteorologist at the NHC, asserted that there have been no disruptions in the operation of the agency<\/strong>, which depends on NOAA.<\/p>\n\n\n“At the National Hurricane Center, I can tell you that the same hurricane specialists and staff remain, so we will be issuing tropical cyclone advisories as we do every year,” he stated in an interview with EFE.\n\n\n

More Hurricanes, Technology, and Vulnerability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nThe Atlantic hurricane season, from June 1 to November 30, will have up to 10 hurricanes and 19 named storms this year, above the historical average, according to the NOAA forecast.\n\n\n

The projection, which this government agency makes every May, reflects that there would be a total of between six and ten hurricanes<\/strong>, of which three to five would be major, category three or higher, in addition to 13 to 19 named storms, that is, with sustained winds greater than 62 kilometers per hour.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n“A more active hurricane season than normal is expected, and that’s what we’ve been seeing in recent years. Every year we have a few more tropical cyclones, and the important thing is to prepare, all the people who live, for example, in Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico coast, in the Caribbean Sea, in Mexico,” Rubio indicated.\n\nThe increase in cyclones occurs due to the warming of the oceans<\/strong>, a neutral situation of the El Ni\u00f1o phenomenon and the potential for a more active monsoon in West Africa, which generates more tropical waves, described the meteorologist.\n\n\n

But the expert indicated that technology, including artificial intelligence, is helping to detect the rapid intensification of cyclones more, so the NHC has “better forecast models”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
